Funding to freeze for 'virtual border fence' Print E-mail
Wednesday, 17 March 2010 20:22

Read more...It’s a project that has caused nothing more than headaches for the federal government since its inception nearly five years ago, and now the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is announcing plans to halt funding for construction of the “virtual border fence” along the U.S.-Mexican border, according to The New York Times.

DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano cited a bevy of cost overruns and missed deadlines as reason for the action, and said the department would shift $50 million in federal stimulus money intended for the other project to more prominent technological concerns on the border.

“Not only do we have an obligation to secure our borders, we have a responsibility to do so in the most cost-effective way possible,” Napolitano said in a press release Tuesday.
