Anne Baker
Editor-in-Chief

Baker is a senior from Asheville double-majoring in journalism and technical photography. She joined The Appalachian staff in fall 2007 as an intern news reporter. She held the positions of news reporter and then news editor before being selected as the 2009-10 Editor-in-Chief. Baker hopes to work as a photographer for Gros Morne National Park in Canada for a year after graduation and then attend law school.



Jon LaFontaine
Associate Editor for Online

LaFontaine is a senior journalism major from Asheville. He joined The Appalachian Fall 2005 as a graphic designer. He held the position of Associate Editor of Production for two years, before being selected to serve as the 2008-09 Editor-in-Chief. He is now currently the Associate Editor for Online. LaFontaine hopes to further his journalistic career by working for an established newspaper publication in North Carolina with hopes to move to a national level. Liles Neal
Associate Editor for Production


Neal is a senior politcal science major with minors in criminal justice, philosophy, and communication. He previously worked at The Appalachian as a sports reporter and graphic designer. Neal plans to attend law school after graduation and pursue a career in criminal law.




Brittany Penland
Associate Editor for Content

Penland is a junior journalism major from Asheville. She joined The Appalachian the fall of 2007 as an intern news reporter. She has held the positions of news reporter, opinion writer, and copy editor before being selected as the Associate Editor for Editorial Content. Penland's future aspirations are to work for a well established newspaper and travel the world.


Rob Jenkins
Sports Editor

Jenkins is a senior history major from Rocky Mount. He joined The Appalachian in fall of 2008 as an intern sports reporter. He hopes to one day work for Sports Illustrated as a college football writer. Check out his blog at rob-jenkins.blogspot.com .




Emily Melton
Lifestyles Editor / Online Specialist

Melton is a senior broadcasting electronic media major from Charlotte. She joined The Appalachian in fall of 2007 as an intern news reporter. She was promoted to news reporter and currently holds the positions of Lifestyles Editor and Online Specialist after a brief stint on the graphic design desk. She hopes to one day work for a news station.

Haney is a senior jouranlism major and English minor. This is her second semester working for The Appalachian and she would like to one day work for a travel magazine and see the world.

Northcote is a sophomore history and anthropology double major and a communications minor. She has interned with the Greensboro News and Record and hopes to combine her passion for writing with museum work.
