Much like its parent club, the Yosef Club, the Student Yosef Club has been established specifically for Mountaineer students.
The club, which has been a leadership board for the Yosef Club for several years, branched out this year and became its own club.
It has been successful in allowing students to get involved and more in touch with fellow athletes and other classmates.
“It’s a lot like a spirit club,” Kindsay Greene, director of business development of the Yosef Club said. “The club is all about students supporting students, and being a member of the Student Yosef Club is being one step above the general fan.”
One of the key traits to the Student Yosef Club is that it provides its members access to football and basketball games 15 minutes before any other ticketholder is admitted.
“I think it’s great that the members can get pumped and go into the game early,” sophomore art education major Elizabeth A. Lauer said. “I’m not a big football fan, but it [the membership] definitely helps those students who want to have their perfect seats at the game.”
Members also have the privilege of bringing guests with a guest ticket into the games early.
“Going into the games early is a major incentive to become a member of the club,” international criminal justice major Mitchell L. Volpe said. “There are always so many students in the student section that it is hard to find a seat sometimes.”
Volpe is a junior at Appalachian State and regularly attends football and basketball games during the season.
Other benefits of the Student Yosef Club include special invitations to events featuring athletic players, coaches and staff, a subscription to the “Black & Gold” newspaper of athletics and a free Student Yosef Club t-shirt.
The Student Yosef executive board is comprised of 20 student members that are elected each year.
The executive board allows students to become leaders and aid in the facilitating and planning of events.
Membership of the club is available to all Appalachian State students for $25 per year. These dues go towards the Priority Point System, which enhances the development of the Student Yosef Club.
The Student Yosef Club will be holding an expo in Plemmons Student Union the week of Aug. 30 through Sept. 3.
