Holy Ghost, Brave Baby ready to take stage at Legends
Wednesday, 01 February 2012 22:35

The multi-genre, Greensboro-based quintet Holy Ghost Tent Revival will play Legends Thursday night, along with Charleston, S.C.'s Brave Baby.

Holy Ghost made its Legends debut last September, as a headlining act with over 500 people in attendance, Programs Advisor Randy Kelly said.

"When I first watched them I realized the band has legs," he said. "It's going to get bigger and bigger. They've got legs. I think Holy Ghost is going to go somewhere."

But for trumpet player Charlie Humphrey, the stop in Boone means a little more than just the band's second Legends show. He's also a junior music performance major at Appalachian State University.

"It's awesome," he said. "It's one of the most rewarding experiences to see all of my friends in the audience and I feel at home. I guess it's very comfortable to see all my friends out there cheering me on - cheering us on."

The band is currently is coming off a tour with Langhorne Slim.

"We've been playing with him since last Friday," Humphrey said. "We've been opening every show and it's like playing in front of people who have never seen us before and have reacted very positively. It's been a good experience so far."

The members of Holy Ghost recorded new tracks over winter break and hope to turn them into a full-length album sometime in the near future.

"I guess this new recording that we're coming out with is probably like the thing that we're trying to push the hardest, because it's all-new songs, kind of a different sound and new lineup," Humphrey said. "So it's like we're trying to get people acquainted with this."

Opening for Holy Ghost is indie group Brave Baby - a band which compares its sound and vocal harmonies to Fleetwood Mac and the Decemberists.

The group, which plans to release an album sometime in 2012, records and produces its own music.

"It's more of a life album," Masters said of the band's latest effort. "We all go through BS."

Doors open at 9 p.m. Tickets are $5 in advance for students and $7 at the door for everyone. This event is BYOB with proper identification.
