The Student Government Association has selected senior management major Michael Cox as its new director of student affairs.
The position carries the responsibility of addressing students’ concerns, on issues ranging from extended library hours to on-campus food options.
Cox said his goal is to listen to every student’s issues.
“We really want to make sure we are listening to students and changing what we can,” he said. “As director, you can push the envelope to make sure that student voices are being heard. It’s a great way to leave a mark on the school for future students.”
Cox also encouraged students to speak out and voice their concerns.
“The best way to have your voice heard is to tell someone who is empowered to make a change,” he said. “Chances are someone else has the same problem you have, so don’t let your problems go unheard.”
Cox was involved with SGA during the 2010-11 school year. He served as an off-campus senator, a member of the rules committee and the elections board chair.
Cox will replace senior finance and banking major Alan Clarke, who stepped down due to excessive time commitments.
Clarke said he looks forward to seeing the changes Cox will make around campus.
“He’s a go-getter,” he said. “I’m expecting that he’ll get his hands dirty on the first day.”
