Appalachian student dies in car accident
Tuesday, 27 April 2010 07:43

An Appalachian State University student died Saturday after suffering fatal injuries in a single-car collision in Taylorsville.

Caitlyn M. Price, a sophomore secondary education major, was headed north on Liledoun Road when N.C. Highway Patrol authorities believe she over-steered in a curve, went left of the center line, over-corrected, slid off the road and struck an embankment on the right side of the road.

N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper R.V. McGee said Price was not wearing a seat belt.

She was airlifted to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Price, a Taylorsville native, was a graduate of Alexander Central High School and was a member of the Teaching Fellows Executive Council at Appalachian.

Price was also a mentor to her peers, serving as a tutor in the tutoring program on campus.

A visitation will be held today from 5 to 9 p.m. at the East Taylorsville Baptist Church, and funeral services will be held Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
