UPDATED: 2:37 p.m.

An unidentified Appalachian State University female student was hit by an AppalCART bus at approximately 12:30 p.m. on Rivers Street today.

“I saw the girl get hit, fall down and try to get back up,” T. Andrew Edmonds, junior political science major said. “The bus driver got out to see if she was okay.”

The female student was crossing Rivers Street toward Farthing Auditorium as Tommy Medley, driver of the POP 105 bus, was turning left out of Raley Parking Lot into the far right lane of Rivers Street.

“I don’t think they’re going to cite the driver, but they may cite the pedestrian who was running across the road,” Chris D. Turner, AppalCART director said. “Medley told me he had a green light at the intersection but he stopped as soon as he saw the girl.”

The student was taken to the emergency room of Watauga Medical Center upon her run-in with the bus.

“The student didn’t appear to be have any serious injuries,” Gunther Doerr, University Police Chief said.

Updates will continue as more information becomes available.
